Dépression Tropicale / Tropical Depression
Système où la convection est organisée et la ciculation cyclonique caractérisée. Les vents prés du centre sont compris entre 28 et 33 kts (51 et 62 km/h, grand frais, force 7 Beaufort) / Low Pressure area with organized convection and definite cyclonic wind circulation in which the maximum of the average wind speed is estimated to be in the range 28 to 33 kts (51 to 62 km/h)

Tempête Tropicale modérée / Moderate Tropical Storm :
Système où les vents près du centre sont compris entre 34 et 47 kts (63 et 88 km/h, coup de vent ou fort coup de vent, force 8 ou 9 Beaufort) / System in which the winds near the centre is estimated between 34 to 47 kts (63 to 88 km/h).

Forte tempête Tropicale / Severe Tropical Storm :
Système où les vents près du centre sont compris entre 48 et 63 kts (89 et 117 km/h, tempête ou forte tempête, force 10 ou 11 Beaufort) / System in which the winds near the centre is estimated between 48 to 63 kts (89 to 117 km/h).

Cyclone Tropical / Tropical Cyclone :
Système où les vents près du centre sont compris entre 64 et 89 kts (118 et 165 km/h, ouragan, force 12 Beaufort) / System in which the winds near the centre is estimated between 64 to 89 kts (118 to 165 km/h).

Cyclone Tropical Intense / Intense Tropical Cyclone :
Système où les vents près du centre sont compris entre 90 et 115 kts (166 et 212 km/h) / System in which the winds near the centre is estimated between 90 to 115 kts (166 to 212 km/h).

Cyclone Tropical Très Intense / Very Intense Tropical Cyclone :
Système où les vents près du centre sont supérieurs à 115 kts (212 km/h) / System in which the winds near the centre is estimated to exceed  115 kts (212 km/h).

Dépression Subtropicale / Subtropical Depression :
Système hybride présentant au cours de son existence des caractéristiques tantôt des systèmes dépressionnaires tropicaux, tantôt des systèmes dépressionnaires de type polaire. Sur le Sud-Ouest de l' Océan Indien, la genèse de ce type de dépression est régulièrement observée sur le Sud du Canal de Mozambique / An hybrid system having during its life some characteristics which could belong to both tropical and extra-tropical depressions. In the South-West Indian Ocean, the genesis of such system is regulary observed over the South of Mozambique channel.
